September 11, 1938 -
November 23, 2010

South Portland ME - Michael L. Tenggren, 72, passed away November 23, 2010 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, ME following a brief illness.  Earlier in his life, Mike formerly resided in Gorham ME, and in East Longmeadow MA.

Michael was born September 11, 1938 in Everett MA.  Mike’s mother and dad, Harry and Mabel Tenggren, and his brother Peter Tenggren, each predeceased him. Mike graduated from Deering High School in 1956, and promptly enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served honorably until discharged in 1962. Mike was a loving and proud husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed years of employment at IBM, Union Oil, Eastern Security, and most recently Maine Mall Motors. Mike was an avid Red Sox fan who enjoyed trips to Fenway Park with his wife and children. He also enjoyed horse racing at Scarborough Downs. Mike was a happy and fulfilled member of the congregation of the Thornton Heights United Methodist Church in South Portland, ME.

Michael is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara A. (Manley) Tenggren of South Portland, ME.  Mike’s three children include Peter L. Tenggren (and his partner Warren Mitchell) of Boston, MA, Mark L. Tenggren (and his wife Kristina of East Longmeadow, MA) and Karen A. (Tenggren) Chambers (and her husband Joseph of Rockport, MA).  Mike five grandchildren are Brian M. Tenggren, Kasey L. Tenggren, Daniel G. Tenggren of East Longmeadow, MA, and Timothy C. Chambers and Sarah A.V. Chambers of Rockport, MA.  Mike three nephews are Randall H. Tenggren of Florida, Matthew W. Tenggren of Los Angeles CA, and Kevin P. Tenggren of Lincoln, ME.

Mike was a good man to all who knew him. The family is thankful to the staff at Maine Medical Center, and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, for the excellent care they provided Michael. Funeral Arrangements were made by the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the memory of Mike to the Thornton Heights United Methodist Church, 100 Westbrook Street, South Portland, ME 04106. A memorial service will be held at the Thornton Heights United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM, Saturday December 11, 2010. A reception will follow at the church. A private graveside service will follow the reception.

Mike and I worked in the same branch office at IBM for several years.
Mike was in administration, mostly parts supply.
I was in service so I depended on Mike a lot.

When we loose a friend, our minds flash to recall precious memories that have been stored for many years. Mike’s passing brings so many happy moments hanging out with Mike during the 1950’s along with Deering High School classmates Don Stevens, Gene Crockett, Buddy Foley and others. Mike’s humor and kindness will remain in our thoughts for ever. Salute from a friend, Mike… May Mike’s family remain strong.
